Ireland has never been known for its conquest of foreign lands, unlike countries like England, France, Spain and the Netherlands they have never held colonies and established an empire.
But now it seems Ireland is poised to conquer Europe by the heavy hand of government regulation. As someone who is Irish I can’t say this is something to be proud of.
Ireland in 2026 will be poised to be the first country to mandate labels with health warnings on their bottles.
The Irish mandate will become the Irish problem as foreign producers especially from wine rich countries such as Italy and France will start avoiding the Irish market. Making labels for one country will not be cost effective.
But I think this ignores what the goal of the Irish health bureaucrat is. Uniformity across the EU and making label mandates mandatory for the whole EU trade zone.
In the U.S bad business mandates usually start in California and reach a critical mass across the country.
The Irish health bureaucrat with the aid of the WHO, the purveyors of the COVID debacle, will try to impose their will over the coming years.
Ireland has never been a warring country ready for conquest of foreign lands.
Unfortunately it will conquer Europe by the soft power of government mandates and adding unnecessary cost and regulation that is not needed. Not something to celebrate on St. Patrick’s Day
